Thoughts: Now/Here
Anytime, there’s an Absinthe premiere, I’m sure to be there. This year was no exception. Absinthe, especially in the past few season, has dialed in their filming, editing, production, creativity, and more to provide snowboard flicks, that appeal to just about any riding style. This years premiere was at the Esquire Theater here in Denver. The Esquire, pretty much a landmark theater in the Denver area, has a great vintage vibe with a really cool staff. On any other day, you can catch indie flicks, or fun runs of older horror movies. I met up with Travis, and the 720 Boardshop Snow Team to catch the premiere.
I don’t want to give away the film, but the riding was out of control. Wait until you see Bode Merrill’a parts. His riding is just at another level, it’s insanely great! There are numerous great parts in the film, and generally speaking the whole film keeps you entertained, and guessing what’s coming next. I found myself at times, hoping that the scene I was watching, wasn’t the last one before the end of the flick. Absinthe has everything covered from POW slashes, to gnarly rails, and even NO boarding. This flick is a must own for me, and I can only say great things about it. This is the kind of flick that will end up on my ipod/ipad for those long airplane rides I always seem to be finding myself on. Oh, I almost forgot, I thought the soundtrack to the film was well thought out and fit perfectly with the scenes. This isn’t always the case, as you know, if you’ve seen any number of various flicks.
As usual, with most premieres, there’s the giveaways. Absinthe included gear from Yes, Nike and others. For the final giveaway, they had a limbo contest, with the winner walking away with a new board from YES. That was pretty insane to watch, as it came down to Lakota Sage, and another viewer, who one upped Lakota to take home the board. Lakota still ended up walking out with a nice jacket from Nike outerwear though. Was definitely a fun night!
As we were all getting settled into our seats, they were showing various sponsors, and such on the big screen, and I was stoked to catch the Seven Twenty Boardshop logo show up on the screen.
I didn’t snap any good shots, as I spent most of the time before and after the premiere catching up with contacts, and friends. I ended up as usual, wishing, I’d taken more photos, but I tend to get caught up in conversation.
