Winter Park
I spent yesterday out at Winter Park with a mixed group of friends. We had several skiiers and several boarders between us. Conditions were pretty interesting. As we drove, up we went from bluebird skies to dense cloudy, windy and snowy conditions. in fact when we got to Mary Jane they informed us that the super gauge lift to the bowl was closed due to winds reaching 75mph up there. I’m not sure how fast the winds were but the gusts we experienced on the lifts that were open were insane at times.
The upside to the conditions of course was the much needed snow here in CO! We had a pretty insane day with runs on both the Mary Jane side and the Winter Park side. The WP side was in better condition as it wasn’t getting hit with the same wind the Jane was experiencing. I have to admit I bombed off the lift not once but twice yesterday due to insanely icy conditions. It seemed like every other lift group was bombing on the ice sheets. I took out the 09-10 Legacy R with Flow NXT-AT bindings. The Legacy continues to be a fun board and still one of my “go-to” boards for relaxed days. I spent some time on the flats playing with some presses and fun short heelside sprays. I guess that’s really one of my favorite things about the Legacy; I can bomb runs, shred hard into carves and still have a playful board without sacrifice. I’m planning on riding the Titan Tx again this next weekend with my Union Forces. I have a review of the Forces that I need to finish up prior to posting it here soon.
Lately I’ve noticed my riding is inconsistent in that I have really on days and other days I’m just really off. Yesterday was an off day. While I had a blast out there, I just had some gnarly runs where I just wasn’t focused. I think opening the day with a lift spill and then busting my ass while standing still (ice) kind of threw me off. Do you guys find you have days like this? It’s all part of riding and just remeber to keep having fun. As Chris ( who’s riding is consistent as Shaun Whites!!!) pointed out..”You’ll have some fun memories from today.” Which is so true. Even the bad days produce great and sometimes hillarious memories! I know I’ll never live down busting my ass while just standing there…. because honestly it was hillarious.
Shout out to all the friends and crew who went out yesterday in the crazy conditions and made it an insanely fun day.
