Review: 09-10 32 Lashed Lace
In the quest to find snowboard boots that fit us bigger guys, one cannot rule out Thirty Two (32). Thirty Two makes the Lashed which is one of the best selling snowboard boots in the industry. I must admit, this was my first time ever riding with a pair of 32 Lashed boots, and I was pleasantly surprised.
The first thing I noticed about the Lashed boot was the sizing was slightly bigger for me than my Flows, and other boots this season. While I normally wear a size 12 boot, I found that a size 13 Lashed seemed to fit my wide foot much better. Trying to get into the size 12 was somewhat of a battle, alleviated by moving up to a size 13. Thirty two has an amazing fit program for their boots. When you purchase the boot, the store is able to heat mold the boot to your foot. While this is a common practice with a lot of boots, I really thought that the “fit-kit” that the shops have from 32 really take fitting the boot to the next level.
The Lashed comes in a slew of colors this year, including Purple, Yellow, Green, Black & White, White & Black and more. The boot is also available in Lace, or a Speed Lace version. I tend to favor laces, being as I’m old school and just like the feel of laces. Ok so let’s dive into this boot. I went with the black & white color-way, since my outerwear tends to be bright, I figured a neutral boot would work best. The first thing I noticed with the boot was the lack of ”break-in” period that I’ve experienced with other boots. I put the boots on, and hit the slopes without any foot fatigue, cramps, or burning in my feet. I was pleasantly surprised to be able to just enjoy a full day of riding in brand new boots without issues.
I’ve put five days in a row of deep powder riding on these boots and honestly they still feel great! The boot is a medium flex, with great support all through-out the boot. I didn’t notice any heel lift issues, but will review the boot again later in the season to see if they pack out and cause issues. Thirty two also includes an awesome fit kit that also addresses the heel lift issue, if you find you’re having heel lift. Another point of order with the Lashed is the articulating cuff. This can be an area of debate among riders. The articulating cuff allows the rider to lean into a toe edge without the boot loosing support over the ankle, or foot due to boot flexing. In other words a softer flex pattern, and consistent support throughout the boot.
The level 3 liner included with the Lashed quickly became my favorite liner this season. Not only is it incredibly comfortable, but also easy to get in and out of. The level 3 uses the same quick pull style lacing system a lot of other manufacturers use, but with a few differences. You’ll notice there is the standard pull lock pictured above, along with a long orange canvas pull tag. The pull tag allows you to really dial in the fit of the internal lacing system before tightening down the whole liner ensuring a solid fit over the ankle and foot area. I found this feature to be really cool, and quite helpful in getting the right fit. The top strap is an old staple, which I’ve come to love on most of my boots.
Most people will find the Lashed is an incredibly comfortable boot, not only designed to ensure the riders feet are comfortable, but also with response and feel in mind. While wearing the Lashed, I found I could feel the board, and the boot didn’t feel loose, or washy while riding. Thirty Two also includes a internal level 2 footbed, which sits inside of the liner, designed to provide support for the heel of the foot, especially when you’re stomping landings etc.
After riding a few different boots this season, I’ve come to really love the Lashed. People rave about the comfort of the boot, and I honestly can see why. While not only comfortable, the Lashed provides support where it’s needed without causing foot cramps, or foot fatigue while riding. I was stoked to really take this boot out in deep pow, and find it handled like a dream. Five days of riding really showed me that Thirty Two really does put some thought into just how the boot will be used based on feedback from their riders and their own experiences. The Lashed comes in at an MSRP $199.99 price tag, which is a solid price for the Lashed!
So final thoughts:
For a bigger guy, boots feel great. They size up to size 13, and seem to fit wider feet just fine in the toebox. A solid boot, and one of my new favorites, at an awesome price. If you’re looking for a very comfortable boot, with great support, check out the lashed.
