The problem is the Jacket…
I've been going through the sizing charts for outerwear today, and one thing seems to pop-up more often than not. Pants sizing isn't generally an issue, although some ideas of waist to inseam correlation is a bit out of wack, the problem is jacket sizing. The sizing charts for jackets are all over the place. Trying to find companies who size identically is nearly impossible. Some companies make longer jacket lengths with bigger sizes, or longer sleeve lengths, but shorter overall lengths, or just crazy chest sizing.
For me the outerwear hunt is pretty easy, with the exception of the jacket. I'm a pretty big guy, but by no means the largest guy. I'll be spending a lot of time at SIA in January/Feb focusing on jacket sizing, to see what's coming down the pipe, and to better understand how a company determines appropriate sizing for any given jackets. The jacket I currently own from SIMS ironically is the best fitting jacket I've found this past season. I found FourSquares jackets to be a bit too tight across the chest section, but fit perfectly everywhere else. Columbia as a general product manufacturer tends to make decent sizing, but at what can sometimes be insane price points. I have yet to try a Burton jacket, as the ones I've found locally to try on, have fallen short of any true fit. On my list for jackets this season; Burton, 686, Airwalk, SIMS, and more...
