’09-’10 Never Summer Revolver R
This is the first year I've ridden the Revolver R model from Never Summer. There are a lot of great things about this board, and it excels, no wait, it blows away park and freestyle terrain by providing great pop, response, and flex.
The Revolver R was also my first foray into a board under the 159cm riding size. I'm always up for trying new things, and found the 157cm quite fun and responsive. I rode the board in spring conditions, fresh snow from the spring dump we got, at Echo Mt. The first noticeable thing about the board, were the graphics. I love the aggressive skull and guns graphics, no doubt a head turner, as several riders were stoked to see the board, expressing a lot of interest in the board. I've been a huge fan of the NS Logo when it's slapped on the bottom base of the board, as found on the Revolver R this year.
The '09-'10 Revolver R is slightly softer than the previous models. The press flex core found in both the Evo R and the Revolver R provides a beautiful amount of pop/flex between the binding/feet which does make popping some ollies easier. The board has a nice light weight to it, even with a pair of Flow bindings, and I found pulling off 180's a bit easier with the Revolver than some other boards. The Never Summer R.C. tech no doubt helps in this area, adding to the nice pop and response of the board. Edge to edge, the Revolver holds it's own. For a R.C. board, the edge hold was solid, even on some nasty groomers, and in some places ice pack, I never felt as if the board wanted to wash out. Riders may find the Revolver R a bit "buttery" and/or "noodley." The board is insanely fun to ride, and I found myself smiling as I hit some jumps and carves.
I did find some limited chatter in the board at speed, but nothing worth complaining about, as the board still felt responsive, and held well. The toe to heel response on this board transitions smooth, and easy, increasingly complimented by the R.C. tech no doubt. The Revolver R is my favorite new park/freestyle ride currently. I'll be adding this board to my collection no doubt! I have to commend Never Summer for providing a wider version of the EVO R for us bigger riders, in the form of the Revolver R.
I rode this board with size XL Flow M9 Bindings, and Burton Freestyle size 12 boots. The waist of the board was more than adequate for both the bindings and boots I had on, and heel/toe drag was minimal at best. I road with a wider stance, and a front foot 8 offset, and rear foot -10 offset.
Final Thoughts:
- Favorite Park/Freestyle board yet
- Super Responsive
- Great Pop/Flex
- Fun Graphics/Color Combos
- Never Summer R.C. Tech is insanely great!
