Thoughts: The “Sierra” effect

I talk to a lot of people about snowboarding, the industry, retailers, you name it.  I get to spend a lot of time learning the ins and outs of how things work, how boards are built and all kinds of fun things.  I've heard lots of rumble throughout various industry insiders about the effect of Sierra Snowboard on the masses.  I didn't pay much attention to it until recently.

Thoughts: Snowboard Mag Gear Guide

I received my copy of the Snowboard Mag 2011 Gear Guide in the mail last week, and was stoked to see it sitting in the little gray postal box. This is that transitional phase where the weather is starting to move towards fall, and we all known soon enough in CO, snow will start. The Gear Guide is kind of like a fix, something to ease over the time between now and when the snow hits. I spend a good amount of time riding, and reviewing various gear, albeit it in a wide format, or for bigger guys etc, and was disappointed with some aspects of the Gear Guide.

Local: Movies on the Rocks!

I absolutely love premier season, it's that time when we all get amped up for the coming season.   The air is crisp, hoodies, and beanies abound, everyone is just super chill, and stoked to get to see the culmination of the various companies hard work through out the season.  If you're in the Denver area, or surrounding area, and can check out the Snowboard Movie on the Rocks event happening Sept 17th, I'd highly recommend it.  Three movies... three insanely great movies, live music, and more, set among the Red Rocks ampitheatre backdrop.  Unfortunately I'm going to be over in the UK during this event, and I'm sure bummed about that, but check out what's going down! This even is going to be amazing! More information is available over HERE

Upcoming: 2010-2011 Flow Wide Boards

Flow has definitely taken their game to a whole new level this year. The new product coming out is looking hot, and from what I've seen the quality is even better. Since this site is aimed at the bigger rider, I'm going to address the wide boards in the 2010-2011 lineup.  Flow's been rocking the industry/scene since the 90's and has improved year over year.  I believe this is their best year ever, with board design, technology and choices abound.  I did notice however, they've removed a few things from the lineup which was a bummer to me, but I understand how the market works, and why things must be done.

Thoughts: NS Legacy vs Heritage X

Two heavy weights hit the floor, which one takes it all?  Well it's not exactly a fight, but I've had a lot of people asking me about which board would be better, the Legacy, or the Heritage X.  I wanted to take a minute or so of your time (maybe more like ten minutes) and talk about the differences between the two boards, to perhaps provide some clarity for all you riders torn between the two boards.

Thoughts: Never Summer’s New Core

People love stigmas.  They love to hold onto stories, and beliefs they believe to be true, regardless of whether they are or not.. or so it would appear.  It's not uncommon in our industry for people to tell you Flow bindings are heavy, even though the newer models are actually quite light weight, or that boards are heavy because that's all they've ever heard.  Such is the case with Never Summer.

Vegas to LA to San Diego

So I've been on the road for a bit for both work and fun and so far it's been a great trip! Started in Vegas then I moved on to LA and San Diego for some relaxation and a friends birthday.
More to come later...

On the Road…

I'm out in Las Vegas currently, and will be road tripping around for the next few weeks.  I'm actively working on a few reviews, and articles to update the site.  While I may not update the site as much over the next two and a half weeks, I'm still working on new content.  I just may not have reliable internet access as I'm traveling.   I am however getting really stoked on the upcoming premiers this season. I always enjoy hitting the premiers with a bunch of friends, it's a great way to bridge the last part of summer and get hyped up for riding again.  I rode through June of this year, so I'm not too bad off, but I know some people haven't been on a board since April or so, and I don't think I could live with that itch. :-)   Premiers provide that avenue, that release and excitement factor of watching everyone throw down.   Are you guys stoked to catch any premiers, or is there any one video/shoot coming out that you're excited about?

Review: ’10-’11 Never Summer Revolver

One of the last boards I reviewed from Never Summer this year was the Revolver.  I own the '09-'10 model of this board, and honestly didn't feel there was too much different  between '09-'10 and '10-'11 models.  I rode the Revolver with Flow NXT FSE XL bindings, Union Contact L/XL bindings as well as the Flow "The One" boots in size 12.   The Revolver is Never Summers mid-wide/wide version of the ever so popular park/freestyle deck, the EVO.  On thing I absolutely love about Never Summer is they always provide excellent board sizes to accommodate larger riders.

Thoughts: What Boards/Gear Are YOU Most Interested In?

As the summer continues on, my work on this seasons reviews is ongoing. I'm making a list of the must ride boards/bindings etc, but really wanted to know what you all out there on the internet are interested in. There are numerous mid-wide/wide boards available, and while I hope to ride and check out as many as I can, it's always nice to get feedback on what gear you all want to know more about. So with that being said, feel free to comment, or email me with your thoughts on what you're interested in seeing. I'm planning on demoing at least 20-40 boards this coming season for reviews, and am getting all ramped up for fall/winter.
